Following Augusta Iris’s expulsion of Gordie, her spouse, from their home due to his affair, she sinks into a state of prolonged despair and suppressed fury, spending weeks confined to her bed with minimal communication. Meanwhile, her son Henry, a marijuana user and high school dropout employed as a lawn mower, channels his resentment towards his father by constructing an unconventional sculpture in Gordie’s art studio. Additionally, Mathew, Augusta’s withdrawn and health-conscious son pursuing a Ph.D. in chemistry at Harvard, returns home to offer support to his mother. However, he isolates himself in his room to evade interactions with Bette Mack, Henry’s spirited live-in partner, who endeavors to inject energy into the dispirited household with her enthusiastic advice and lively criticisms.
