Songwriter/pianist Frankie Staton has been writing songs since she was eleven years old. She came to Nashville by way of North Carolina when friends and family started to tell her that she needed to move to a city with more opportunity, where people could hear her beautiful music. Several music publishers and people who heard Frankie’s music didn’t believe she wrote the songs they were hearing because they thought the songs were too good to have been written by “someone who looked like her”…which led to create the first ever Black Country Music Showcase at the BlueBird Café in 1997. Listen to her perform a powerful and personal tribute to Loretta Lynn — a song called “Forever, Loretta” — in the historic circle.
