Nine-year-old Johannes Blom lives with his father and his rather unpleasant sister, feeling quite lonely—until one day, he unexpectedly gains a secret companion: a Wiplala, a small elf-like creature without even a proper name. Still learning how to control his magical powers—particularly the ability to shrink things—Wiplala accidentally miniaturizes the entire family. As they navigate the dangers of the adult world from their new, tiny perspective, they quickly discover how risky magic can be when used without full control. Despite his inexperience, Wiplala does his earnest best to help them through every challenge, all while hoping to one day return to his own kind with a bit more mastery of his powers.
