Director’s Statement:
When I first read Mark Korven’s script for Morbus, I was struck by its immediacy and pace. This excited me as a director because I hadn’t quite made something like it. The script was a constant ratcheting of tension, building to a moment of sheer conflict. It begins with our unsuspecting characters encountering a blockage on a country road. It’s as if they accidentally wandered into the wrong movie, unequipped for the physical and mental challenges ahead. It closely mirrored our experience making the short. We filmed in July of 2019 and completed post in May of 2020. The chasm between those two periods felt enormous; the last summer of normalcy and the early days of a world-changing pandemic. I was unsure anyone would be interested in Morbus due to the constant barrage of news discussing disease and contamination during the COVID lockdowns. Thankfully, many gave the film a chance and supported it through festivals and virtual screenings. I am grateful to our amazing cast and crew for helping bring Morbus to life and I am thrilled for new audiences to discover their incredible work therein. May we never succumb to the goo… Whatever means necessary…
