A mother’s love is meant to protect. A home is meant to be safe. But in this house, something dark has taken root.
A shattered cup. Bloodied claw marks on the floor. A desperate scream. A child begging her mother to stop.
Down in the laundry room, the washing machine spins, a haunting ritual playing out yet again. The mother watches, trembling. She has tried to rid their lives of the thing that lurks in the shadows. She has tried before. She has failed before.
Then—an abrupt stop.
A hand slams against the glass from inside. Something trapped. Something trying to get out. But when the door creaks open, nothing steps forward.
Instead, the mother feels it—breathing against her neck.
Her daughter stands behind her, bruised, exhausted… changed. In her arms, she cradles the one thing that cannot be destroyed. The thing that owns them both. A filthy stuffed rabbit with hollow eyes and an ancient hunger.
The mother watches, helpless. Tonight, like every night, the mother will surrender. She pleads to her daughter for forgiveness. She had to clean the rabbit, after all he was dirty.
Her daughter, pale and bruised, takes her hand. Not as a child, but as something else. Something sinister. For now, there is peace. But the darkness is still watching. Still waiting. Because the real horror is not what haunts this house. It’s what happens when the mother finally gives up.
