On the bustling boardwalk of Coney Island, Mrs. Delano runs a popular penny arcade with her three children, providing a front for her eldest son’s illegal bootlegging operations. When her weak-willed younger son, Little Harry (James Cagney in his historic film debut), gets dragged into a bootlegging double-cross, a confrontation ends in a fatal shooting. Desperate to protect her family, Mrs. Delano attempts to frame an innocent man for the crime, triggering a web of blackmail, guilt, and heartbreak. Based on the hit Broadway play Penny Arcade, Sinners’ Holiday (1930) is an fast-paced pre-Code crime drama that introduced moviegoers to the iconic screen presence of James Cagney and Joan Blondell.
