🏆 Academy Award Winner — Best Live Action Short Film, 2002
Can one man, stop a national conspiracy?
How much is a family’s history worth when the numbers no longer add up?
With their Georgia family farm facing financial ruin, brothers David and Tommy O’Dell turn to an accountant whose methods are anything but ordinary. He arrives with a talent for figures, some unsettling theories and an unconventional approach to keeping the farm in the family.
What begins as a review of debts and receipts becomes a far stranger conversation about the survival of small farms, corporate power and the disappearance of a Southern way of life. As the accountant lays out his ideas, the brothers must consider what preserving their inheritance might really cost.
Written and directed by Ray McKinnon, who also plays the title character, The Accountant combines dry wit, rural detail and uncomfortable questions about progress. At its heart is a dilemma that reaches far beyond the farm: what happens when everything you value is reduced to a price?
