When a harsh and domineering father named Hammingway is found murdered, the prime suspect becomes Mr. Vernon — the fiancé of Hammingway’s step-daughter. Scotland Yard believes the case is closed, but the young woman insists that her fiancé is innocent. Desperate to save him from a wrongful conviction, she turns to Sherlock Holmes.
Holmes dives deep into the circumstances surrounding the tyrant’s death, questioning motives, re-examining evidence, and uncovering hidden conflicts within the household. As he reconstructs the crime step by step, Holmes exposes lies, suppressed tensions, and a far more complex truth than the authorities had assumed. His determination to protect an innocent man leads to a dramatic reveal that forces the real murderer out of the shadows.
This colorized 1954 episode highlights Holmes’s brilliance as a defender of justice, adding warmth and visual depth to the original black-and-white broadcast. Restored in 720p, it brings new clarity to an emotionally charged mystery built on fear, control, and the courage to challenge false accusations.
