A wave of fear paralyzes wartime Britain! Night after night, a menacing radio broadcast known only as "The Voice of Terror" predicts horrific acts of sabotage across the English countryside—train derailments, factory explosions, and defense breaches—just minutes before they strike. Desperate to stop the inner-circle leak feeding intelligence to the enemy, the Inner Council of British Intelligence summons Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone) and Dr. John H. Watson (Nigel Bruce). Guided by his uncanny knowledge of London’s underworld, Holmes recruits Kitty (Evelyn Ankers), the brave companion of a slain informant, to infiltrate the city’s dark alleyways. Together, they unravel a dangerous web of treason, hidden transmitters, and double agents hiding at the highest levels of government.
Directed by John Rawlins, this thrilling 1942 Universal Pictures release was the very first film to update Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic hero to battle modern WWII enemies. Expertly colorized and digitally remastered, this feature film is an absolute must-watch for fans of espionage thrillers, classic colorized crime drama, retro detective thrillers, and Golden Age Hollywood cinema.
