A fortune waiting overseas. A ship going nowhere. And business partners nobody should trust.
Humphrey Bogart is Billy Dannreuther, an American adventurer whose finances have seen better days. His latest opportunity involves four dubious associates, uranium-rich land in East Africa and a voyage that cannot begin soon enough. But while the group waits in an Italian port, an English couple enters their orbit—and idle conversation soon becomes a dangerous business.
