Director’s Statement:
As a member of Gen Z myself, and as someone who has struggled in the past with body image, I have seen the devastating influence social media has had on my generation firsthand. Teens, especially young women, are pressured into fitting unrealistic beauty standards, and many have felt they would do anything to look "perfect."
In bringing “Shift” to life, I was highly influenced by the body horror of David Cronenberg films, the striking visual intensity of Andrzej Żuławski’s “Possession,” and the works of painter Francis Bacon in portraying the gruesome consequences of the film’s central drug, and the tragic obsession our main character develops for it.
