The Last of Us series is an action-adventure survival horror video game franchise developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 consoles, and includes an expanded universe. The first major video game installment, The Last of Us, was released on June 14, 2013, and a sequel titled The Last of Us Part II released on June 19, 2020.
The series takes place in a post-pandemic United States after an outbreak of the Cordyceps brain infection in the year 2013, which has decimated nearly 60% of mankind globally. The first game follows one survivor named Joel, a hardened middle-aged survivor of the outbreak, who meets a brave, young survivor named Ellie who is wise beyond her years, and their adventures across America that showcases real emotion and action against other human survivors and infected.
